Blog Rules
Rules designed to protect the community (those who frequent this blog)
- No personal attacks against other contributors. Name-calling is for kids but it takes a real hero to destroy the opinions of others with facts and intelligent arguments. Be that hero!
- Don’t propagandize. If I’m not allowed to pump the real estate market up, you’re not allowed to try to blow it up. It’s only fair. Bull or bear, if you repeatedly present yourself to say the same four or five things over and over until everyone but you is sick of listening to it you’re promoting a selfish agenda, and that’s not cool here.
- Don’t post using more than one name. I can still tell that you’re you (Wordpress logs IP addresses of the computers which communicate with it), and it saddens me deeply to see you needing validation to the extent that you’re willing to become someone else, just to agree with yourself.
Rules designed to protect my reputation in the real estate industry and in the community
- No attacks against other real estate agents or brokerages. I’m not saying that it’s never called for, but believe it or not, there are professional standards within organized real estate and it’s considered unprofessional to publicly bad mouth a competitor. Allowing anonymous comments that question the integrity or competence of my competitors is pretty much as good as doing it myself and I refuse to be dragged down to your level, at least in public. If you want to trash talk a competitor with me, you can damned well buy me a drink.
- No attacks on specific property listings even if they are obviously deserving of public ridicule. Come on folks, my name and number is posted all over the place here and I am the one that will take the brunt of a home seller’s wrath, not you. Let’s each find a way to laugh at these foolish people behind their backs, free of repercussions.
- No attacks against public figures. You might have the luxury of being anonymous here, but I don’t. I’m not particularly interested in explaining to the mayor or the premier why I would allow an anonymous contributor to slander him publicly on my blog. If you want to bash the mayor, write a letter to the newspaper and put your name on it like other grown-ups do.
Rules that are designed to protect my clients (these rules are pretty much covered above, but just in case you didn’t catch my drift the first time, I’m going to cover these ones again).
- It is not in my client’s best interest to have their property publicly ridiculed on my website. “I can’t believe someone bought that piece of crap” or “only a moron would pay that much for that ugly shack” are just a couple of examples of stuff that cannot be said here. Don’t waste your time writing and posting such a comment, as it has a zero chance of survival.
- This blog was created for those who live in Saskatoon, are interested in living in Saskatoon, or otherwise love Saskatoon. It’s not for people who hate Saskatoon. If you’ve reached a point where you can no longer stand this city you should spend less time here writing about it and more time pursuing your ambitions elsewhere. You’ll need a job, a new place to live, and hey, you’ve got a lot of packing to do, so let’s get at ‘er.
The rules are not intended to stifle discussion, but rather, to encourage an intelligent, civil, and relevant conversation. From time to time, attempts are made to disrupt discussion. Please remember that it’s best not to feed the trolls. I’d appreciate it if you could ignore provocations and I’ll do my best to clean up as quickly as I can get to it.
I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to familiarize yourself with these simple rules. If you think you can live with them, I welcome your contribution and I’m excited about hearing your thoughts.
I reserve the right to moderate comments appearing on this blog and by posting here, you agree that I may remove your comments, or portions of your comments that break the rules, and I agree that you have every right not to post here if you don’t like it. If you notice that your comments are disappearing you’ve broken one of the rules. If you can’t figure out which rule you’ve broken by yourself feel free to drop me an email using the contact tab on the navigation bar. I will be happy to explain myself to you. I’d be delighted to see you change your evil ways and rejoin the community.
