Meadowgreen

Meadowgreen is a residential neighbourhood located in Saskatoon’s west end. Most of the development in this area occurred between 1960 and 1980. Roughly half of the homes in Meadowgreen are single-family detached houses, while apartments account for about forty percent of the housing stock. Almost all of those units are situated south of 18th Street West and west of Avenue W South.

Including a convenience store and laundromat, Westgreen Plaza is the only commercial space in the area. Westgate Plaza and Confederation Park Mall offer a wider selection of goods and services and both are an easy drive from this neighbourhood.

The area has just one school that is part of the public school system. W.P. Bate School was relocated when its new building on 18th Street opened for the 2006-2007 school year. Its former location at Ottawa Avenue is now home to a beautiful public park, one of three in the area. Recreational amenities available to Meadowgreen residents include baseball and basketball facilities, numerous playgrounds, walking paths, toboggan hill, an outdoor skating rink and a paddling pool. Holiday Park Golf Course, one of Saskatoon’s eighteen hole municipal courses is handy to the area as well.

My wife and I have been living in Saskatoon now for the past 28 years and love the city. We started out in a small home in City Park but soon after needed to upgrade to a larger home to suit our growing family. We bought a nice bungalow in South Nutana Park which we also found to be a very pleasant and quiet neighbourhood with very friendly neighbours. After ten years and four children, needing even more living space, we bought a lovely new home in Fairhaven. We found a real sense of community on the west side where we enjoyed and raised our children over the next ten years. Now that the children have grown and starting families of their own my wife and I decided it was time to down size. We did very well on the sale of our Fairhaven home and could see that there was long term value in any home investment as long as you maintain. We settled on a nice bungalow in Meadowgreen that suited our needs very nicely. Our new home in Meadowgreen has been such a pleasure. We have already met many of our new neighbours and been made to feel very welcome which is amazing since we only moved in seven months ago. It is close to everything we need and the value in this area is exceptional. We already have some ideas of how we want to add some of our personal touch to this home and have no doubt that we will do very well on re-sale value in the future if condo living eventually calls our name. For now we still enjoy the beautiful tree filled yards with a park like setting in this older established area. If anyone ever asks what our neighbourhood is like……tell them it is a wonderful place where people know their neighbours and take pride in being part of a community.
