A very good time, such a fine time, such a happy time

by Norm Fisher on December 18, 2009

I came across a Times Online post titled “The Top Ten Songs About Houses” by way of @SaskREALTORS twitter stream. It was fun to revisit some of these old tunes and reflect on what I was up to when they were released. Our House, by Madness came up as a top favorite for me. Released in 1982, I was just nineteen years old at the time. Trish and I didn’t have a house back then but we did have a home.

I remember way back then, when everything was true and when
We would have such a very good time, such a fine time
Such a happy time
And I remember how we’d play, simply waste the day away
Then we’d say, nothing would come between us, two dreamers

It’s hard to believe that nearly thirty years have passed since that time. Twenty-five years married…two wonderful children, all grown up…several homes.

I don’t get up late for work. Trish never irons my shirts. Still, it has been a very good time, such a fine time, such a happy time.

Trish, I’m glad that my house is “our house.” Thank you for sharing a home with me.

Awww, what a nice guy you are, Norm. You must go all out on Valentine’s Day :)

I don’t think the piano player even plays! He just touches the keys.

I was born in 82 :)

I figured “Brick House” would be on that list. But I guess it’s about a woman and not a house.

Yes, not a very convincing piano play.

1982 was a good year all ’round. :)
